Holy cow! –> 5, 27,3.
4.0 speed. As usual, around minute 11-12, wondering what I'm doing. Going to do 15 in the ice (actually, really really cold water) bath. Left leg DIDN'T go numb this time. Janis got me through! ("Me and My Bobby McGee.") Will Sunday be THE day??? Tuesday??? I plan on Thursday as "Taper Day," then Saturday is it, the 5K!!! |

Close Encounters of the Thirty Minute Kind
April 25, 2008
“One cannot consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.” –Helen Keller
“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.”—TS Eliot
I’m feeling ambitious. Despite the heat, I’m doing much better. I hit 24 minutes straight yesterday and felt I could do more. I’ve reduced the speed from 4.5 to 4.0, which apparently I should have been doing anyway.
I’m trying to take it slowly and listen to my body, which seems to be telling to me push just a bit further. I feel like I could do more.
I have a schedule I made of several “couch to 5K” plans. From the looks of it, I’m somewhere in the middle. According to some, I could do more. In others, I’m right on track or a bit too fast. I really believe I can hit thirty minutes before May 3, before the infamous Ed Gentry Strawberry Chase 5K. At that point, happily, I can take down the “C25K” logo on the MySpace profile.
Here’s a training schedule I’ve composed. It’s an amalgam of many programs, from Bill Rodgers, Budd Coates, and others. This method seems to be the best for me. (By the way, I think Bill Rodgers is awesome!)

At 12:00, getting hot, slightly, ever so slightly nauseated. Feeling icky and wondering, "Why am I doing this???" Then I remember how strong my thighs are starting to feel, then I make like Jake and say to myself, "Hit it." It's downhill after about minute 18 or 19. This is the second time I've cranked the treadmill speed down to 4.0 from 4.5. My walking is b/w 2.5-3.0. My left leg, from the hip or knee down has been getting kinda numb around minute 28. What the dickens? I also don't run the 'mill with shoes. (I'm an au naturel kinda gal.) I think I need more water and yoga, and XT. I've also eating toast just before my runs. This is the second time. Ice bath for 15. Feels like heaven. Or, has Haley said to Lucas Platter, "Feels like Kevin!" Bacon? |

Right knee cranky! Am icing it. Too hot. A/C out in central heat & air. Downstairs a bit too hot and dryer was running. Poo. But, I actually did it! I’m proud of myself! Will need to post updated training plan for now until 5/10. :0-)

That grilled chicken from lunch still sticking in my stomach. What was I thinking???? Need to stick to being a veg. System not used to seared carcasses! Also, not that hydrated today. AND… a/c out in the house. Central heat & air blowing hot. Woke up in the night and the thermostat read 86degrees. Blech! Treadmill is in “the dungeon,” buth the sunlight had been coming in all day, making it warmer in there than expected.
Wondered about scales not moving. I weigh each week the day after my long run, essentially. Found out that after good deal of exertion the muscles retain water in order to repair. Up to 3-4 pounds. Icing backs of legs today. Continue to feel a bit tight in calves and Achilles as I run. NEED MORE YOGA!! :0-)

First mile, 15something. Left leg went numb from knee down toward the end. Ice bath for 15, followed by quick hot shower. Ice bath wonderful! Felt so scrumptious. I really feel like stretching. I need to do some yoga later. Did some yummy yoga stretches pre-workout. Seems to help! :0-) I am sooooooooooooo bloody awesome!!!
